3D-Palace 2 Day Amsterdam 3ds Max seminar (aug 24/25)
Havent posted on 3dbuzz for a while - mainly because Im up to my knees in work as people who know 'palace probably allready know. Wanted to pop over to 3dbuzz though to let you all know about the Seminar we are running in August over in Amsterdam (beautiful place and it has cheap cigars!) on the 24th and 25th. To moderators / Zack and Buzz please if this post is in any way needing modification or moving just go ahead!
UPDATE! Due to my being able to get a discount from the training provider I can pass that to all people attending the course New price is 350 euro from the old 500 euro. Pretty nice saving (which will buy a lot of amsel!). All atendees who have paid in advance have now been refunded. Limited places left. To summarise for people with ADHD, the course is a 2 day 9:30 to 5 classroom based max seminar showing modelling, procedural animation, materials and particle systems for swarming and also procedural modelling. Brochure is here Booking is here A two day 3DS Max Seminar Amsterdam, Thur 24th and Fri 25th of August 2006 Following the success of last year's course, this year we have decided to expand the content to cover more particle flow. The initial modelling phase on day one will cover showing how to create a semi-complex insectoid creature – we will cover polymodelling, use of primitives and splines and a few other techniques whilst we do this. The model is being build to be instanced in a swarm so we are going to build it accordingly. After the build we can use simple procedural textures as well as slightly more complexed ones to make a texture for the insectoid. By the end of the course on day two we will have our insectoid in a swarm simulation – we will be making use of forces, deflectors and operators to make a complex flight pattern. Finally if there is time we will look at procedural creation of geometry using Pflow and Mesher to create complex objects. DAY ONE PLANNED AGENDA Meet up at seminar rooms, introductions, coffee. Looking over our reference piece, discussion over how it will be modelled as well as discussion of different types of modelling. Start of build – getting all members of the group up to speed on the technique. Lunch Continuation of build, explanation of methods used. Some detailing work, setting up of controllers. The end of Day one should leave us with a more or less finished model, ready for application of materials and as the base model for the swarm. DAY TWO PLANNED AGENDA Coffee and a discussion of the day's work ahead. Building procedural materials Initial introduction to Particle Flow Simple Particle Flow demonstrations Lunch Building a swarm simulation in Pflow using the insectoid. Time permitting, procedural modelling using pflow. Handing out of certificates and DVDs. At the end of day two we will have a completed swarm and you should have the ability and knowledge to create moderately complex particle flow systems to your own specifications. All members of the seminar will receive their certificate from 3d-palace.com to show that they attended the course, as well as receiving over £200 worth of 3d-palace training DVDs; The APU DVD Set The Ultimax DVD Set The Stormbringer DVD Set The ATMT DVD Set The Dreadnought 2 DVD Set The Introduction to Game Character Dev Set A special coursework reference DVD. We will be available for questions during the course and if you want to have some extra time during the coffee or lunch breaks to discuss anything related to the course please feel free to ask. If last year's Maxterdam is anything to go by, this years will be a blast! I was stressed to death of course because of having to remember the coursework I was trying to teach as well as managing schedules for my family (who I had decided to bring over to check our the city). First day I was there I had a killer hangover all morning - we had arrived the hotel the previous evening at about 11pm and I had nipped out to buy mineral water and some wine or beer. First time in amsterdam, no idea where I was, 11pm. Only took me about 2 minutes funnily enough too!
Sadly last time I missed out on socialising a lot due to family being in the area too - young kids and no babysitter - however this time its just myself and Amanda coming over and we will be pushing out the boat 'palace style Hope you can make it Ian (and anyone else wanting to come of course) - I guarentee learning, entertainment and fun - and its all tax deductable! Cris

Man you have no idea - I was sitting in my hotel room at about 11pm at night watching the class stagger past the window about 30 feet below off to presumably continue their revelery (dammit).

Fast update - so damned glad today that I managed to get a discount on the training rooms from the provider meaning I can pass down a discount to attendees (and partial refunds) - new price is 150 euros cheaper for the event (YAY) - I was so bummed at the old cost, this is way more student friendly
To all people who have booked, are going to book or who are just going to turn up and get horribly drunk with us all, look forward to seeing you there!(If I can afford it, next year I should really save to send Jason over a ticket so he can come party with us!) Cris
